Podziemna Tawernatemat: Grotowy klimat i legendy - czyli kwas

I jeszcze jedno- Kto wymyślił termin "liszokracja"?

Ustrój były i słusznie miniony (chociaż...

Wow, żywa legenda w temacie o legendach.
@down W Grocie niemalże czczony.

(rozwiązane) i skąd Acid wziął swój awatar? (także).

Dzięki Morglin.
Pora na następne pytanie. Niedawno F!eld odszedł do rezerwy.

F: Zdecydowanie tłumaczenie Might & Magic VI – tutaj trzeba złożyć podziękowania wspaniałej ekipie, a w szczególności Alamarowi, z którym mordowaliśmy się nad niektórymi terminami dniami i nocami.

Oczywiście, miało to swoje konsekwencje, bo poczucie humoru moje i Rabiego skutkowało nieraz w... kontrowersyjnych decyzjach. Do wszystkiego, a Tawerna dzielnie cierpiała i znosiła nasze eksperymenty. O’Rlyeh?) :)

R: Znasz chyba cztery języki: poza angielskim i francuskim jeszcze dwa. A jakie studia to sprawiły?

Świeża i pełna energii. Drugi to Skambankt – norweski rock z domieszką punka.

R: Ciekawe, że organizowałeś Konwent Miłośników Heroes of Might & Magic i Fantasy w Byczynie Kluczborskiej.

Rok temu to Tarnum – współorganizator – bardziej konwentował. Tarnum ogarnia finanse i szczegóły żywieniowe.

F: W sensie RPG – Might & Magic VI. To jest moje dzieciństwo, podobnie Heroes of Might & Magic II. I to będą moje ukochane części serii.

No cóż. Tyle słowem dygresji. Sam Cepheus:
– Stworzył stronę o Might and Magic na mechanizmie wiki.
– Korespondował intensywnie z Acidem m.in. w sprawie fabuły – część Gildii Mrocznej Tajemnic pewnie by nie powstała bez Niego.

Zamiast uzewnętrzniać się albo kogokolwiek krytykować i dolewać oliwy do ognia, wolał coś fachowo naprostować i dorzucić swoje filologiczne trzy grosze. Osobiście szanuję go i lubię chyba nawet bardziej, niż on mnie. ;-)

CASTLE
The Castle Town is a continuation of the Knight’s Town from Heroes of Might and Magic I and II. In the previous games it represented the Kingdom of Enroth and the Ironfist dynasty. Remarkably, their coat of arms is a crowned lion, which appears in the desktop icon and cover picture of Heroes II. King Roland finally defeated his evil brother Archibald, took over the throne and married Catherine Gryphonheart, a princess from the overseas land of Erathia. They had a son Nicolai Ironfist, who is met in the Might and Magic VI game when he is a child. Unfortunately, not a long time later, Catherine was called to her homeland for the funeral of her father Nicholas Gryphonheart. This journey is the introductory video of Heroes III, and the game’s icon is a griffin, the coat of arms of the Gryphonheart dynasty. The plot is centred on the restoration of Erathia after its demolishon during Catherine’s absence. Also, the Armageddon’s Blade expansion tells the story of Erathia’s later wars, especially with Kreegans from the Inferno town.

The Castle is probably the best town to start your adventure with. The units are at worst just good, and some of them are the best in their tier. In the early part of the game you will rely on the archers. It is a good idea to upgrade them quite quickly in order to double their shots. You will also make use of monks. These two shooting units are essential to eliminate the neutral troops and conquer the nearest neighbourhood. Later, you should quickly buy griffins and the cavaliers. If your resources abound, for example when playing the normal or easy level of difficulty, you can concentrate on building the Portal of Glory to buy the undefeatable angels and archangels. Unfortunately, Castle is rather an expensive town to develop, so it is important to have large savings of gold and gems.

+ A relatively easy start
+ A great creature set
+ All troops are useful
+ The special town building are the stables
– The magic heroes are focused on First Aid
– The mage guild only up to tier 4
– The monks have only 30 health points
– Angels and archangels are expensive
– Weak, rarely used special buildings: shipyard, lighthouse and the Brotherhood of Sword

RAMPART
Rampart is a new form of the Sorceress Town form Heroes I and II, with a very altered creature set. For example, the new first-tire unit is the centaur which used to be in the Warlock Town. The druid, the pixie and the phoenix disappeared completely, and were replaced by pegasi, dendroids and dragons – formerly available only to the Warlock. The Rampart represents the elvish land of AvLee. Quite little is known about its origin, but according to a legend, the elfs sailed from the freezing northern island of Vori, seperating from the more ancient Snow Elfs. For centuries AvLee made war with Erathia, among many others the Timber Wars mentioned in Might and Magic VII. This cRPG game takes place between the Restoration of Erathia and the Armageddon’s Blade, and it was also published between the two Heroes III versions. In MM7, humans and elfs come into a yet another conflict, this time over the Harmondale town and the Contestend Lands, also known from the final campaign of Heroes III. Depending on the player’s choice, the argument can end up with a war. The current king of of elfs is Eldrich Parson living in the Castle Navan, in the capital Pierpoint, in the Tularean Forest.

The sylvan town of Rampart lives in peace and harmony with nature. The centaurs and elfs provide it with a quick start. The troops are very differentiated – two of them fly and two others are slow but very robust. This is why this faction is strong both in attack as well as in defense, for example of a town. Moreover, it is one of the cheapest towns to build. Apart from gold, it needs mostly wood and crystals, used for hiring green and golden dragons. The magic resistance of these creatures can be a nightmare to enemy’s magic heroes, just like the abilities of dwarves, unicorns, and the high chance of Rangers to learn resistance as a secondary skill.

+ The town is easy to command and to start the game with
+ Cheap
+ Most creatures are quick
+ Excellent for small maps
– Average magic heroes: Druids
– Only one shooter
– Dendroids slow down the hero movement
– The blacksmith produces tents

STRONGHOLD
It is the new version of the Barbarian Town from Heroes I & II. This time the 'savages’ have their own land and country – Krewlod. This faction has probably the least changed creature set – the only removed unit is the troll, but its way of fighting by stone-shooting is retained by the cyclop. Wolves now have their goblin riders, rocs flew here from the Wizard’s Town, and last but not least, there are the completely new Behemoths, appearing only in Heroes 3–4 and MM7–8.

Barbarian’s history is very long and likely to be the longest of all factions. Heroes Chronicles: Warriors of the Wastelands is a campaign estimated to take place up to a 1000 years before the main Heroes III story. There we learn that a barbarian called Jarg used to rule an enormous realm spreading across almost the whole Antagarich continent. Later, his people were enslaved by wizards of the Bracaduun empire. The campaign tells the story of a mighty hero Tarnum, who is in many respects similar to Alexander the Great. Starting with a good intent and a rebellion against wizards, he is dissatisfied with a mere independence, and aims to rebuild the legendary empire of Jarg. Due to Tarnum’s hubris and cruelty, he is quickly overthrown by Rion Gryphonheart, who becomes the first king of a new country Erathia. The later story of barbarians is vague. Centuries later, their country Krewlod invades Erathia for a short time, which is described in one of the Heroes III campaigns. Unfortunately, Krewlod is not visited in Might and Magic VII, which is said to be one of the game’s biggest drawbacks. In Armageddon’s Blade, an ambitious hero Kilgor fights for the throne of Krewlod. In the final chapter of Heroes Chronicles, i.e. the 'Sword of Frost’, Kilgor’s wife Kija manages to find the ancient Sword of Frost just before both Gelu and Tarnum. This ends up with a war against Elves and in the Reckoning, the destruction of the planet in Hereos IV intro. Luckily, some barbarians escaped through portals to a new world of Axeoth, where Tarnum leads his step son Waerjack to become their new leader.

It is also worth saying that this website, the Behemoth’s Lair, identifies itself with the Stronghold faction. This is evident from our name and the nickname of our Emperor, Behemoth. In addition, our off-topic board, the 'Behemoth’s Claw’ tavern, is located in Ulgak, the capital of Krewlod. :-)

DUNGEON
Dungeon is a new incarnation of the powerful Warlock town from Heroes I-II, which in Heroes III moved underground. This is probably the most altered of all factions. Alamar is the only old hero, and four out of six units were moved to other armies: gargoyles, centaurs, griffins and hydras. The medusa used to be neutral, and four creatures are almost completely new to the series: troglodytes, harpies, evil eyes and manticores, with the exception that evil eyes already appeared in MM6. The land of Warlocks and Overlords is Nighon. This island is in the South-East off the coast of the main continent, but it is probably on Antagarich’s main plate. Otherwise it would be hardly possible for Nighonians to dig under the island and the sea all those enormous tunnells through which they invaded Erathia in Heroes III. After its defeat in RoE, Dungeon is given relatively little attention in subsequent games. In MM7 Nighon is visited but it is not any major country taking part in the politics. There are some unused graphics of Nighon in the game’s files, so maybe it was meant to be a more developed and significant land, yet this was cut. In the Armageddon’s Blade, there is a single campaign telling how an overlord Mutare tried to conquer all the other underworld states. In The Shadow of Death and MM8, warlocks play no role. However, they appear in Heroes Chronicles. In the Clash of Dragons, taking part after Armageddon’s Blade but before Heroes IV, Mutare is dissatisfied with ruling mere Nighon. She magically controls other dragons and uses them to conquer the 'overworld’ as well. The 'Conquest of the Underworld’ tells an amazing, forgotten story in a very distant past. An immortal hero Tarnum travels to the deep underground world of demons to rescue the captured soul of his former enemy, King Rion Gryphonheart, the founder of Erathia. And last but definitely not least, 'The Sword of Frost’ is the final chapter of Heroes Chronicles and the whole Heroes III game. Tarnum commands the Nighonian troops and travels a very long way to island Vori, to take the Sword of Frost and destroy it before it is taken by Gelu. This mission failed and led to the Heroes IV intro.

TOWER
Tower is the town of wizards in an unusual setting. In any other game in which it appeared, such as Heroes II, MM VII, Heroes IV or V, it was far more of a desert. Also, since Heroes II, there were some changes in the army’s line-up:
– rocs, halflings (hobbits) and boars moved away
– genies were previously neutral but here they joined the town
– gargoyles were taken away from the Warlock
– there are two completely new units: gremlins and nagas.
The wizards’ country is the mountainy Bracada, located on a southern peninsula of the Antagarich continent. In Heroes III Bracada is freezing and snowy, unlike in Might and Magic VII where it is hot and rough. The only way to explain this inconsistency is to suppose that it is a desert, but with very high and frozen mountains. The capital is the flying, celestial city of Celeste, accessible only by magical portals. Its Castle Lambert is the seat of Gavin Magnus, an unusual ruler of the whole Bracada and a grandmaster of light magic. As an immortal, he lived in extremely distant past such as the times of Bracaduun Empire. This ancient country ruled with an iron fist over other nations, most importantly the barbarians.

NECROPOLIS
This town appeared for the first time in Heroes II, where it was an dangerous experiment with dark magic by Archibald Ironfist to defeat his brother Roland. Archibald was accompanied by some legendary characters like Sandro. Since then, it is a signifact faction present in all subsequent games. Necropolis has its very faithful fans, who sometimes play only with this town. In Heroes III and Might and Magic VII, setted in Antagarich not Enroth, the land of necromancers is Deyja, pronounced [D-Asia]. Little is known about this country’s origin, but it developed independently of Archibald’s Necropoleis on Enroth. The first recorded necromancer and lich is Ethric the Mad, known for being the teacher of Sandro. Deyja has been ruled by the necromancer’s guild. The starting point of Heroes III is that the necromancers murder king Nicholas Gryphonheart. They transform his corpse into an undead monster to command them to a victory. Obviously, as expected from Frankestein-like stories of this kind, this falls out of control. The necromancers’ campaign under king Nicholas, and later against him, is the main plot of Restoration of Erathia, with an expected happy end. The King is defeated and killed one more time in the Heroes III outro. Also, the reason of his first death is revealed – it was a betrayal, as suspected by Wilbur Humphrey in his letter from Heroes III manual. Later, after the Restoration and before the Armageddon’s Blade add-on, Necropolis plays a central role in the linking game Might and Magic VII. Having helped to expell Kreegans from Enroth in MM6, Archibald sails to Erathia to join Nicholas Gryphonheart. Nicholas is defeated and Archibald becomes his successor. He does his best to rebuild necromancers’ power and knowledge, aiming for lords of Harmondale as an ally. To his surprise, he is joined by some secret visitors from a different world, commanded by a superhero elf Kastore. Archibald and Kastore also fight and conspire against the wizards from Bracada and their similar mysterious visitors. Eventually, Kastore takes over. According to the 'evil’ ending of MM7 and the original plot of Armageddon’s Blade, Kastore not only replaces Archibald but also wins the whole competition with wizards. Therefore, the Necromancers and Deyja were going to have another town in the Armageddon’s Blade (AB) add-on. It would be the famous and controversial Forge Town of cyberpunk, the intended main opponent in the game. Due to fan’s opposition, everything was changed and Necropolis plays no longer any role in the AB’s main line. It is only given a minor campaign, telling the later story of Lord Haart, a spy and the original assassinator of Nicholas. Fortunately, this wonderful faction is given more attention in the later Shadow of Death add-on – the prequel to RoE. An ambitious lich Sandro, the student of legendary Ethric and the past ally of Archibald, tries to take over the Deyja’s Necromancer’s guild. Eventually he loses, he is imprisoned, and takes no part in assassination of Nicholas, which ironically keeps him safe. This most famous and popular hero of Necropolis is also a later character in Might and Magic VIII and Heroes IV.

To conclude, Necropolis abounds in a wonderful, rich story and great Heroes. Overall there are five games which revolve around this town or its characters:
1. *Heroes II* with the Archibald’s camapign
2. *Might and Magic VI* with Archibald and his peers, but with little focus on necromancy
3. *Heroes III RoE* with Nicholas and the Deyja-Erathia war
4. *MM7* with Archibald’s rise and fall in Deyja
5a. The *original Armageddon’s Blade* with Deyja enhanced by high-tech
5b. The *released AB* also related to MM7, the Armageddon’s Blade artifact and completing the story of Lord Haart
6. The final *Shadow of Death* expansion about Sandro
7. *MM8* telling more about the undeads in a yet another guild – Shadowspire, on Jadame continent
8. Some episodes of *Heroes Chronicles*, especially the short 'World Tree’, where superhero Tarnum fights with necromancers

All these games have been the most popular ones, the most respected masterpieces of New World Computing, the series’s golden age, and their glory lasts for 15 years if not more. Necropolis and its heroes definitely contributed to this success.

INFERNO
Inferno is a completely new town in Heroes. It turned out to be so popular that it appears in all subsequent games of the series, and in Heroes VI it even replaced the far older and 'standard’ factions of the elves and wizards. Inferno represents a mysterious race of Kreegans, who arrived in this world in the night of shooting stars, as shown in the intro of Might and Magic VI. It was already explained in the description of the Castle town that the new queen Catherine left the kingdom of Enroth. Meanwhile, the Kreegans, also known as devils due to their appearence and manners, captured king Roland and left young prince Nicolai as the only person in charge of the whole country. They failed an attempt to conquer it, and worse, their queen was killed by a powerful spell issued by Archibald Ironfist, who was deliberately liberated for this purpuse. However, they retained their commander Xenofex aka Zenofex, and under his rule they moved to the continent of Antagarich, specifically its eastern part Eofol overlapping with the Land of Giants. The Inferno town plays a minor role in the Restoration of Erathia campaigns. However, its story is continued in Might and Magic VII, where the lords of Harmondale visit the colony Zod in Eofol and kill Xenofex with the aid of Archibald. The Xenofex’s successor is Lucifer Kreegan, a main character in the Armageddon’s Blade expansion. He tries to create an ancient artifact of Armageddon’s Blade to conquer Erathia, Antagarich and eventually destroy the whole world, what his predecessor failed to do. Not surprisingly, he fails, because Heroes is a story with a happy end. However, their goal is partially achieved since the Armageddon’s Blade later takes part in destruction of the planet, as shown in the famous Heroes IV intro. Kreegans came from a different part of the space and in Might and Magic VI-VII they are depicted very much like aliens or Zergs from Starcraft. In contrast, in Heroes III or IV, they resemble devils. This is probably for an aesthetic purpose. Yet Greg Fulton, the game’s main designer, reminded in an interview that contrary to many player’s ignorance, Kreegans are not demons, but only demon-looking aliens.

FORTRESS
This town is completely fresh (!?) and appears only in Heroes III. Almost all monsters are new, with the exception of hydras, which were the 5th tier units in the Warlock Town. The corresponding country is a swampy land of Tatalia in the west. It used to be enslaved by Erathians, but in Heroes Chronicles: 'Revolt of the Beastmasters’ campaign, Tarnum leads them to independence. Later, Tatalia even managed to raid the weakened Erathia for a short time – see the 'Restoration of Erathia’ campaigns. In Might and Magic VII, we visit only the part ruled and inhabited by humans, which dissatisfied some players. In Armageddon’s Blade, a gifted Tatalian witch Adrienne makes an alliance with Erathia to fight against the undeads and Kreegans. The current king of Tatalia is lizardman Tralossk, and the heir to the throne is Wystan, his son-in-law. Fortress does not appear in any later game, but its units are merged into other towns, especially Dungeon or Asylum, as it is called in Heroes IV.

CONFLUX
It is the third and final town which appears in Heroes III for the first time, and like Fortress, it is available only here. The elementals used to be neutral units up to and including Heroes III RoE. In Armageddon’s Blade, they are united as a new faction, which resembles the Sorceress’s Town from Heroes I & II – note the pixies, the phoenixes, and a green, fairy atmosphere. Originally it was probably planned for the Shadow of Death add-on, because AB was going to include the controversial Forge town. In the main campaign of AB, the Confluxes unexpectedly appear literally out of nothing, to help the good heroes to their surprise, they defeat the evil Kreegans, and then they dissappear. The story of Elementals is developed in Might and Magic VIII and in Heroes Chronicles. The 'Masters of the Elements’ campaign is really difficult to place in time and to relate to other games. There we learn that the Elementals are powerful, eternal forces, probably even more ancient than the Ancients, and they took part in the creation of the universe. Conflux makes Heroes III the game with the biggest number of towns in the whole series, that is, nine; Heroes V is the runner-up with 8 towns.

— AN INCOMPLETE TOWN – BY NEW WORLD COMPUTING —
As mentioned already in the descriptions of Necropolis and Conflux, Heroes III was intended to contain 10 towns instead of nine. The rejected Heavenly Forge Town continued the evil ending of Might and Magic VII. It was governed and commanded by an evil elf Kastore, a traveller from a different world, known already from Might and Magic III. Having arrived in Antagarich with his peers, he overthrew Archibald in the Necromancer’s Guild, and managed to restore some of the ancient technology still present on this planet. For details, play Might and Magic VII, especially the path of darkness. His new faction was a mix of sci-fi technology of the Ancients, cyberpunk crude style probably due to limited resources, and parts of the original Necropolis faction which formed the basis for Forge. Since the town’s rejection, it was luckily remembered by some faithful fans, especially from Age of Heroes and the Acid Cave. For the details, see the links:

O! Ciekawie. Mam więc pytanie._Jako młody Grotowicz miałem okazję widzieć tylko jeden raz zmianę całego forum, zatem chciałbym się dowiedzieć, czy/kiedy takie wydarzenia mają miejsce?

EDIT: Chodzi o_„Wieprzową Grotę"
